Courtney Fortson looked pained, almost frustrated, when he had to address the fallout caused by a simple message he posted on a social networking Web site.
The 92-character message on Twitter, a service which allows users to post status messages up to 140 characters at a time, had brought national attention to the sophomore guard for the University of Arkansas basketball team.
“Im gettin it at workouts like a dude who doesnt understand the word no from a drunk girl lol,” Fortson wrote.
The tweet was crass and insensitive. As three of Fortson’s teammates were being investigated in an alleged rape on the UA campus, the sophomore posted the message in question on Sept. 7.
